September Rae is a normal human girl working in a bar to make money to support her ailing parents. She's attracted to Sabre, the sexy security guy, but doesn't have a lot of time to spend worrying about it. Then, her parents die and she needs to move on and live her life, so she recklessly agrees to perform a naughty act with Sabre for the club's annual sexy show. In the midst of the act she finds she can't resist the urge to show Sabre how she feels, or to drink his blood!
This book has a great premise. I enjoyed the idea of a somewhat naïve young woman waking up to a world that exists behind the regular world she knows. The characters are well written so that the reader can immediately fall in love with them. The supernatural world the author creates is well thought out and has promise to expand as the series continues.
There are a few detractors to the story. Despite the very interesting plot I nearly put down the book because there are several instances where the intimate scenes are described in ways that remind me of old-fashioned "bodice-ripping" romance stories. One example is where the hero's private area is described as his "love muscle". Unfortunately for me, descriptions like this make me laugh and that detracted from the story which ultimately has a serious story going on.
The author has a great premise and good characters. I am not a fan of ménage, but it happens in this story- so be forewarned. I like love stories where my hero/heroine finds true love with one person and in this story it's iffy as to whether or not this is in the cards for September Rae. The sex is explicit and at times quite naughty, so lovers of BDSM and erotica will find this to their tastes.
All in all I enjoyed the story despite the very few things about it that don't appeal to me, specifically, as a reader.
3 stars and hope to see a sequel
